My friend Cathy

I started really thinking about her in April, around her birthday.

and then I saw this picture....Her sweet sister, Patti posted it on facebook. I never saw Cathy like that. It broke my heart, but it made me remember happier times with her.

She was one of my very best friends in school. Around the 7th grade, we became very close. We went around singing "Raindrops Keep Fallin on my Head" till I thought we were gonna drive the whole middle school crazy. Mrs. Wallace would let us sing it one time in the gym every day before we went out for P.E.
We were inseparable!

Her late father, James and my late Mother, Marjorie, car pooled to Shands every day, so that made us even closer since they were friends.

We went on being friends through high school, and shared everything, when she was down I was there for her and when I was down she was there for me. We spent so much time together, we were like sisters.

When I became pregnant in our senior year, a lot of people turned their backs on me, but not Cathy, she remained a true friend.

Then in October 1975, shortly after we graduated high school, her beloved Daddy died, most unexpectedly. What a shock to all of us. (She had his eyes).

At his funeral, I went into labor with my daughter Shilo, who was born early the next morning. I wasn't with Cathy much those days, as I was learning how to be a mother at 17, but not too long after that, we moved in together, and she helped me take care of my new baby!

We just went everywhere together, K.P.Hole, Hart Springs, the Beach....we were really competitive tanners!!! We borrowed each other's clothes, as roomates do, and even worked together. Her German Shepherd Charlie and my Great Dane, Hagar were even best friends!!! They slept right in front of the front doors every night. No-one was getting through them to get to us!!!

The years went on and I married and moved away, she had Jamie. I had two more children, Beau and Shian, she had Charon. We didn't see each other that much over the next 20 years, but we never forgot what we had meant to each other.

I will never forget those dazzling white teeth and those green eyes of hers! What a beauty!

So Cathy, save me a place on the bleachers up there in Heaven, and when I get there, we will sing again!

I love and miss you!
